Ianis Hagi speaks out amid comments on Rangers fans dispute with Philippe Clement
Ianis Hagi has distanced himself from Giovanni Becali after comments over his Rangers future and says the Romanian does not speak for him.
The exit-linked Ibrox ace posted on his Instagram stories on 7 September to “clarify” the situation while asking for the 72-year-old not to be quoted as his representation.
Becali had commented on Hagi’s difficult Gers situation to Fanatik in Romania on 6 September, claiming Rangers supporters are unhappy with Philippe Clement for freezing the attacker out of the first team and suggesting fan pressure could help force a way back in.
But Hagi wrote: “With all due respect to the media and to clarify, please stop quoting Giovanni Becai, and his comments as that of my agent or mine.
“He’s not my agent, I’ve been under contract with one football agency AC Talent for more than 4 years and they’re the only people who represent and talk on my behalf.”
Ianis Hagi rejected Rangers exit to Rapid Bucharest
Hagi is a high profile player in his home country and his current situation is bound to draw attention, but it appears in this instance he doesn’t believe Becali’s words are helpful.
The 25-year-old’s father, international legend Gheorghe, recently spoke out to blast the “ugly” situation his son had been left in at Ibrox [Scottish Sun, 27 August].
Hagi is stuck on 99 appearances for the club and hasn’t played for over a year, spending last term on loan at Alaves in La Liga and left in the B Team so far this year, seemingly due to a clause in his contract that would trigger a wage increase if he features again [Daily Record, 13 August].
Clement reiterated at the close of the transfer window that he still has no plans to use the 39-cap international [Daily Mail, 31 August] despite coming out of the market with a squad that has been deemed weaker than last season’s [Michael Stewart, 2 September].
