Hibernian v Rangers postponement latest after Met Office update
Hibernian and Rangers’ showdown on Sunday should be safe from the threat of postponement after the latest update from the Met Office.
Ahead of the game on Sunday [5 January], the Met Office have issued a yellow warning of snow in the north of England and Scotland and there is a 90% chance of rain predicted between 9am and kick-off at 12pm.
However, the temperature is not expected to drop to zero degrees on Saturday or Sunday, with temperatures of up to four degrees on Saturday afternoon which should work in favour of the game going ahead.
The hosts have a hybrid pitch and it was relayed before the start of the campaign meaning it should be in good condition to cope with the weather in the lead-up to the game.
Rangers have to build off their win against Celtic
Philippe Clement will have felt a massive weight lift off his shoulders after beating fierce rivals 3-0 in the Old Firm Derby on Thursday (2 January) with a result that will probably have saved his job for now.
However, the result against Celtic won’t mean much if the Gers are unable to go and back it up against Hibernian on Sunday.
Clement’s side have been too inconsistent throughout the campaign so far and despite clearly having quality players in the side, the Belgian doesn’t seem able to get the best out of them regularly.
Furthermore, Sunday’s opponents are in strong form and come into this match unbeaten in seven league games meaning it won’t be an easy clash for the side who sit second in the table.
That being said, if the 50-year-old wants to show that he has made progress with his squad, it is essential not to let the 11-point gap between them and Celtic at the top of the table grow any further in the remainder of the campaign.
