HEARTBREAKING NEWS;Brendan Rodgers confirm suspension of key player due to

The transfer window is now closed but that doesn’t mean Brendan Rodgers still can’t bolster his Celtic squad this month.

The Celtic boss has done some very good transfer business this summer adding seven new faces to his squad in Viljami Sinisalo, Kasper Schmeichel, returning loanees Paulo Bernardo and Adam Idah and record signing Arne Engels, Auston Trusty and former Dundee man, Luke McCowan.

With the transfer window now closed, it seems that the chance to add more quality has passed Celtic by. But we at 67 Hail Hail say no.

We believe that there is one player who is now a free agent that Rodgers could sign who would still add depth and quality to the Celtic first-team.

John Egan could be a viable option for Celtic

Republic of Ireland defender, John Egan is available for free after he was released by Sheffield United this summer.

The 31-year-old has 36 caps to his name and was a regular starter for his country in their last 25 games and he also captained them on seven occasions.

A cruciate knee ligament put an end to his season in September last year but now that he has made a full recovery, he is looking for a new club. [BBC]

Egan is an experienced defender with 438 domestic career appearances in total. In 224 outings for Sheffield United, he helped The Blades gain promotion to the English Premier League on two occasions.

Egan has also played for Gillingham, Brentford and Bradford.

A former teammate of Auston Trusty and international teammate to Liam Scales, Egan will already have gained a mutual on-field understanding with the two Celtic centre backs and he can also play on both sides of the central defence.

What John Egan has previously said about ‘huge’ Celtic

The Irishman is a keen follower of Celtic as he admitted as such when he spoke about Shane Duffy’s move to Paradise back in 2020.
