GOOD NEWS:Daniel Farke confirmed the return of former best player….soon…

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford can count himself incredibly unlucky that he has not been nominated for the 2024 Puskas Award for his stunning volley against Peterborough United.

The Whites are making a regular habit of scoring goals in the Championship under Daniel Farke, and while there is a debate over the lack of entertainment at Elland Road, Leeds haven’t been short of good goals along the way.

With that, there might have been some hope that Leeds had some involvement in the nominations for the 2024 FIFA Puskas Award.

On Thursday evening, FIFA opened the voting for this year’s Puskas Award, a celebration of “spectacular” goals scored during the qualifying period.

11 goals from across the globe have been selected for the shortlist, now open to the public to vote for their best to receive the prize:

A collection of simply incredible goals, but one that we can’t help but feel should have been making the list (obviously with a hint of bias), was Patrick Bamford’s against Peterborough United back in January.

A stunning strike in that 3-0 win, Bamford chested to control a long ball from Ethan Ampadu, before volleying over his shoulder beyond the ‘keeper and into the far corner from over 25 yards from goal:

While Philogene’s rabona effort against Rotherham United was a moment of sheer genius, it is baffling how it hasn’t been ruled as an own goal, given that wouldn’t have gone in without Cameron Humphreys diverting the ball with the top of his head into the far corner – and it’s not even the second best goal a Championship club scored last season, with Bamford’s not deflecting in.
