Good News: Celtic best player has signed a new two-year contract…

Celtic are steamrolling ahead under Brendan Rodgers.

Last summer, Rodgers decided to return to Parkhead after Ange Postecoglou departed for the Premier League and Tottenham Hotspur.

Given how Rodgers left last time out, then you can imagine that sections of the Celtic support hadn’t forgotten his previous actions, so they weren’t exactly welcoming him back with open arms.

But by the time May came around, Celtic were winning the double and all was forgotten about.

You could argue that last season, the team’s performances throughout were off-colour and not what fans have been used to under the Irishman.

But it’s fair to say that it has all turned on its head this season because this is some of the best football the Bhoys have played in a long time – and that’s saying something given the quality that has been on display.

Only one defeat in all competitions and that was Celtic’s nightmare evening in Dortmund, other than that, you can’t argue much, as Marvin Bartley was pretty blunt on what he thought about the current champions.

Marvin Bartley says Celtic already title winners before Hearts win

Credit to Aberdeen, they have managed to stick at it and have been going toe-to-toe with the best team in Scotland from the get-go

But then they lose at St Mirren at the weekend – their first loss of the campaign – and the Bhoys are now three clear.

Added to that, 11 points separate Celtic and Rangers in third, with Bartley being asked if the title race is now done.

But the former Premiership player feels ‘it was done before the weekend’ and if he had a pound to put on who would be champions, then it would go on Celtic ‘all day and every day’, as he told the Scottish Football Podcast.

“I think it was done before this weekend,” responded Bartley on if the title race is done following Celtic’s win over Hearts.

“Honestly, I can’t see anyone stopping them. We are talking about Rangers who are in third place, at this moment in time. Their biggest challenge is to get into second and catch Aberdeen.

“Aberdeen have had a brilliant season. But I can’t see Aberdeen catching Celtic. The way that they play, we spoke about the first half against Hearts and then in the second, they managed to wear them down and score four goals. They bring a £9.5 million striker off the bench to help do that as well. The squad depth there is unbelievable. I can’t see anyone catching Celtic. Aberdeen will hang onto their coattails as long as they possibly can because that will mean they stay in second place. But in terms of someone being the champion, if I was down to my last pound and I had to bet it, then I would bet it on Celtic all day and every day.”

Celtic’s upcoming fixtures

This is now the chance to steamroll ahead and make that gap even bigger, which will then allow the team to breathe easier in the Champions League.

Four more European games remain – at a minimum – two of them before the New Year, so if Celtic clean house in the Premiership in these coming weeks, then they can put more focus on those knockout stages.
