Matthew Perry’s stepdad, Keith Morrison, has broken his silence following five people being charged in connection with the Friends icon’s death. The Hollywood star, aged 54, was discovered dead in a hot tub at his plush California residence back in October 2023. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner concluded the cause of death was due to the acute effects of ketamine.

On Thursday 15 August, news broke that five people are now facing charges over his death, as revealed by United States Attorney Martin Estrada during a press briefing. It was back in May when the LAPD announced they were investigating Matthew’s passing with help from the Drug Enforcement Agency.

The actor’s personal aide along with two medical professionals and others who had ties to “the ketamine Queen” have been formally charged for their part in providing ketamine, reports the Mirror.

Reacting to this latest update, Keith Morrison said: “We were and still are heartbroken by Matthew’s death, but it has helped to know law enforcement has taken his case very seriously. We look forward to justice taking its course and we’re grateful for the exceptional work of the multiple agencies whose agents investigated Matthew’s death.” He went on to say: “We’re hoping unscrupulous suppliers of dangerous drugs will get the message.”

Keith became a permanent fixture in Perry’s life after marrying the actor’s mother, Suzanne Perry, in 1981 and Matthew often spoke of him as the man who reunited his family. Matthew’s father John Perry was married to Suzanne from 1968 until 1970.

Government lawyers have alleged that Perry’s assistant and a friend collaborated with two doctors and a drug dealer to procure thousands of pounds worth of ketamine for the star. An indictment filed in federal court on Wednesday, 15 August, but revealed on Thursday, outlined grand jury charges against Jasveen Sangha, who prosecutors claim was known as “the Ketamine Queen,” and Salvador Plasencia, referred to as “Dr P”.

The indictment stated that Jasveen Sangha kept a “stash house” in North Hollywood.

Dr Plasencia, a physician at an urgent care centre, was among those accused of attempting to supply Perry with the drug, despite being aware of his history with substance abuse, according to the indictment. The charges levelled against them include conspiracy to distribute ketamine, distribution of ketamine resulting in death, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, and altering and falsifying records related to a federal investigation.
