Everton are now the most likely team to sign £25m striker who is unwanted at his current club

Everton are clearly lacking a cutting edge, as a longstanding problem that has plagued the Toffees for years now.

Ever since Dominic Calvert-Lewin lost form and fitness, the football club has been desperate for their next striking figurehead, yet none has come.

In fact, years on from that era, they are still waiting for that form and fitness to return.

They have invested in other marksmen throughout this period to no avail, but a solution is needed sooner rather than later.

Calvert-Lewin’s contract situation is their chief worry, naturally, but after the quiet performance he put in on Saturday, perhaps letting him go might be a solution rather than another issue.

Fortunately, they already have his replacement lined up it seems.

Everton in the driving seat to sign Vitor Roque

That’s according to Spanish outlet Marca, who have offered a fresh update on Everton’s pursuit of Vitor Roque.

Whilst it is only brief, it’s hugely important, suggesting that the €30m (£25m) finisher is now poised to join the Toffees, if he is to come to the Premier League.

The report reads: ‘The strongest candidate could come from the Premier League: Everton.’

Kevin Thelwell will also be buoyed by the knowledge that Barcelona are desperate to sell Everton target Vitor Roque.

Everton’s goalscoring problems spill into new Premier League season

Failing to score despite creating countless opportunities before then being hit on the break and beaten at home.

It was the story of how Everton started last season, first to Fulham and then to Wolverhampton Wanderers, and they now seem set to suffer from the exact same problems this campaign too.

Last term, the Toffees scored just 40 league goals despite accumulating an expected goals tally of 60.75. No team in the entire division had a greater differential between how many goals they should’ve scored and how many they actually did.
