Everton make approach to sign Champions League forward after win v Aston Villa

Everton have approached Monaco with an enquiry about forward Breel Embolo, according to TBR Football.

The online news outlet reported on Tuesday (21 January) that Monaco will allow the Swiss international to leave in the winter transfer window, with the Blues and West Ham United declaring interest in the striker.

However, Serie A outfit Como, who recently signed ex-Toffees man Dele Alli, are leading the race for Embolo, who starred in Monaco’s 1-0 Champions League win over Aston Villa on Tuesday night.

David Moyes is eager to recruit a new leader for his frontline at Goodison Park as Beto continues to push for a winter exit, and the future of Dominic Calvert-Lewin remains uncertain as he enters the final months of his contract. The Blues cannot allow the transfer window to slam shut on 3 February without fine-tuning the squad ahead of another relegation battle.

However, Premier League security is far from a guarantee, and despite the promising signs last time out, the squad has blatant flaws that must be addressed.

Goodison News exclusively learned on 12 January that reports citing a reignited move for Ernest Nuamah are wide of the mark.

But Kevin Thelwell remains active in the transfer market, and signing a player of Embolo’s calibre would be a shrewd move for the Toffees.

The 27-year-old is in the prime years of his career albeit, is struggling for minutes in Ligue 1 however, he boasts five goals and five assists in 25 appearances a higher return than any forward at Goodison Park.

Furthermore, he has extensive Champions League and Europa League experience and is the leading outlet in the Swiss national side – with less than fortnight remaining of the window, Everton would do well to find a better option to fire the side away from the relegation zone.

In other Everton news, the Blues have made an approach to sign Emerson Royal “in the last few hours”.
