Evan Ferguson to Leicester: O’Rourke on ‘huge signing’
Leicester City have been backed to land the “huge” signing of Brighton’s Evan Ferguson in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke explained that working under Ruud van Nistelrooy would be a “great opportunity” for the forward to develop his game.
This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed on 22 November that the 20-year-old wants to leave Brighton in search of first-team football.
Sources say there is still work to be done before a move to Leicester is on the cards, but Ferguson is keen to make the move with the promise of increased playing time.
The Foxes view the Ireland international as a potentially pivotal player in their fight to stay in the Premier League as they want to add quality in forward areas.
However, Brighton are yet to decide on whether they will accept loan bids in the January transfer window, but could be open to offers.
Ruud van Nistelrooy to play key role in Evan Ferguson signing at Leicester City
Leicester are keen to add to their squad in the January transfer window to assist Van Nistelrooy and boost their chances of survival.
There is recognition that, while they have scored goals so far this season, there is still too much reliance on 37-year-old Jamie Vardy to lead the line.
The potential loan move would allow the Foxes legend more opportunities to rest, as well as providing the opportunity to play the two together as a partnership.
Ferguson is keen to remain in the Premier League and would welcome the possibility to become a key player at Leicester, as well as the chance to learn from both Van Nistelrooy and Vardy.
He has played just 269 minutes of club football across ten appearances in league and cup this term, scoring one goal.
