Done deal:Steven Gerrard decision to return to Rangers has been confirmed….he will be joining Rangers..
Steven Gerrard has opened the door to a potential return to Rangers amid growing pressure on Philippe Clement’s position.
This is according to former Man United scout Mick Brown, who worked closely with Sir Alex Ferguson for over a decade at Old Trafford, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the manager “has admirers in the boardroom” at Ibrox.
Pressure has been growing on Clement’s position as a result of the inconsistent results and performances so far this season.
Meanwhile, Gerrard has faced sack pressure of his own at Al-Ettifaq, with the Saudi Arabian club having won just three of their first ten league games.
Following a defeat at home against Al-Qadisiyah earlier this month, the manager was booed by large sections of supporters, while two of his coaching staff have already been dismissed.
As a result, there is a growing feeling that he could also lose his job – something Brown insists will make a return to Rangers all the more likely.
Steven Gerrard opens door to sensational Rangers return
Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game and has a wealth of experience working closely with managers at the top level, insisted that Gerrard is keen to return to the club and may view it as a chance to salvage his own reputation.
“He’s got a very good reputation and standing at the club,” he told Football Insider.
“The fans are still very much in his favour and, from what I hear, he’s got admirers in the boardroom.
“They’re a different side to where they where when he was last at the club. A lot of key players have left and not been adequately replaced.
