DONE DEAL:Rangers fc have completed a huge deal over a young Barcelona wingers who’s going…..
Rangers star Todd Cantwell is “highly unlikely” to feature in their season opener against Hearts after a recent “bombshell” from manager Philippe Clement, according to Daily Record.
Boss Clement recently revealed that the playmaker has twice asked to leave Ibrox before the start of the new campaign (Sky Sports, 25 July).
The Record reported in their print edition (30 July, page 41) that Cantwell will continue to feature for the club’s B-team as opposed to the side getting ready to battle the Jambos at Tynecastle on Saturday (3 August).
Clement had hinted that he’s open to allowing the 26-year-old back into the mix if he has a change of heart but it appears as though he will not feature versus Hearts.
Are Rangers desperate to keep Cantwell?
Clement spoke of how he wanted Cantwell to stay and the Belgian appears open to the idea of allowing him to perform a U-turn if the attacking midfielder has a change of heart about wanting to leave Ibrox.
It is looking increasingly unlikely that the 26-year-old will change this mind, though, and at this juncture, it probably makes sense for all parties to cut ties and move on before it becomes a long-running saga.
From the perspective of Rangers supporters, this one is a bit of a double-edged sword. There is no doubt that Cantwell has ability but there is a feeling he does no perform consistently enough for a club the size of Rangers, while his attitude has often come under scrutiny.
There is a player in there with Cantwell but, honestly, if the Gers can get a few quid for him and Clement can look to bring in reinforcements because of that then it wouldn’t be the worst outcome.
In other Rangers news, the club has secured themselves an unexpected multimillion pound transfer profit that could have been even greater.
