DONE DEAL REJECTED:Lawrence Shankland obviously rejected Rangers terms and conditions and set to play for cel…

Rangers are in pole position to sign Hearts forward Lawrence Shankland in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that there is a “real possibility” that Hearts will look to cash in on the 29-year-old.

Hearts have been steadfast in wanting to keep Shankland at the club long-term, but his contract will expire at the end of this season.

A possible mid-season transfer is seen as a “win-win situation” for both clubs as Rangers need to bolster their squad and Hearts would gain some money.

However, if a deal cannot be agreed between the two teams in January it is expected that the Light Blues will be ready to get it done next summer.

Rangers are expected to be at the front of the queue in the summer to secure him on a free transfer, therefore Hearts could look to get a deal done in January at a cut price.

Rangers would gain an experienced player in Lawrence Shankland

Shankland has scored one goal and provided four assists in 18 matches across all competitions this season for the Jambos, and does boast a lot of experience in the Scottish Premiership.

The Hearts captain has made 123 appearances in the Scottish top flight throughout his career and has scored 50 goals and provided 17 assists.
