Details of potential Blackburn Rovers deal for 23-year-old star emerge

Blackburn Rovers still appear to be in the market for new recruits after a flurry of transfer business ahead of the new season.

It has helped them start the campaign on a good note. They dispatched of Derby County on home turf to start the season before fighting back to draw on the road against Norwich City last time out.

With the help of some more additions, John Eustace will be hoping his Rovers side can make some real inroads up the Championship table after just about staving off relegation on the final day last time around.

Reports emerged somewhat out of nowhere stating Rangers winger Rabbi Matondo was ‘destined’ to join Blackburn Rovers and now, fresh claims over the matter have emerged.

A new report from the Daily Record says that Welsh speedster Matondo is ‘one of a number’ of wingers being considered at Ewood Park.

Importantly, a deal for the former Manchester City and FC Schalke man would be a loan, and parent club Rangers would have to chip in with ‘a significant part’ of his wages.

The Scottish club are keen to move him on to free up wages and Blackburn Rovers is a potential destination.

A deal for Matondo would bring some additional wide threat to Eustace’s Blackburn Rovers ranks.

His best asset is his speed, leaving defenders for dead with his quick turn of pace and fast feet. He’s happy to attack the byline or cut inside onto his stronger right foot when operating on the left, as he often does.

A return of six goals and 10 assists in 63 games for Rangers is a respectable return for the 23-year-old. Matondo has also found joy in Belgium before, managing 10 goals and two assists in 27 outings while on loan at Cercle Brugge.

Having matured on the pitch and developed well since his last Championship loan at Stoke City, Matondo could be a dangerous addition to an impressing Rovers attack.

Rovers’ new stars

A lot has been said about just where the goals will come from for Blackburn Rovers after seeing talisman Sammie Szmodics step up to the Premier League with Ipswich Town.

However, those questions look to have been answered early on – the goals can come from anywhere.

In just three games, Eustace’s side have scored 12 goals across all competitions. Those goals have come from seven different players.
