Dessers price set, Hagi charm offensive and £10m Butland exit pitch – Rangers transfer clearout state of play

Dessers price set, Hagi charm offensive and £10m Butland exit pitch – Rangers transfer clearout state of play

Rangers are reportedly still willing to accept an offer for Cyriel Dessers – IF they can recoup the fee they paid out for the striker last summer.

The 29-year-old has been the first-choice striker for the Light Blues since Philippe Clement stepped into the hot seat last season to lead the line with alternative striking options Danilo and Hamza Igamane ramping up their fitness behind the scenes at Auchenhowie. However, the Nigeria international has been linked with a move away from the Scottish Premiership with PAOK and Cagliari both floated as potential destinations.

It has also been reported that a move to Major League Soccer was all-but agreed before Dessers knocked back the chance to sign for Atalanta United. The Rangers Review now claim that Rangers’ stance on selling the forward has “remained unchanged” this summer – and if they can bring in the £4.5million they paid Cremonese a sale would be made “in line with player-trading intentions.

It is noted that clubs in Saudi Arabia, Spain and France are also keeping tabs on the frontman. Rangers are said to have accepted that Dessers value is “unlikely to increase” as he turns 30 this year.

And while Dessers could follow the likes of Ben Davies out of the door – with the defender nearing a switch to Birmingham City – he is unlikely to be the only one to be shown the door in the coming days. Rapid Bucharest are keen on frozen out Ianis Hagi – and the club appear to be continuing their charm offensive.

The 25-year-old Romanian returned from Alaves this summer in search of fresh start under Clement after starring for his country at Euro 2024 in Germany – but has been told in no uncertain terms by the Belgian that he is not in the first-team plans at Ibrox. He has been dropped to the B team alongside fellow misfit Todd Cantwell.
