DEAL DONE: Philippe Clement confirm done deal with Hearts over Lawrence Shankland join Rangers soon….
The 28-year-old was a late inclusion into the starting lineup on Saturday [21 December] after Jack Butland sustained an injury in the pre-match warm up at Ibrox.
Shankland has been linked with a move to the Gers since the summer transfer window [HITC] and his reply to Kelly’s Instagram post [21 December], will undoubtedly add fuel to the fire of a potential move as January approaches.
He said: “Nice Liam.”
Rangers could push to sign Lawrence Shankland in January
Philippe Clement could be forced into the transfer market to recruit a new forward for Rangers with Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane hot commodities.
The Nigerian has lost his place in the starting lineup at Ibrox to Igamane, and rightfully so, he has missed big chances for the Light Blues on far too many occasions, and a midseason exit is looking increasingly likely ahead of January.
However, the Premier League are taking note of Igamane’s performances in the Europa League and Everton are leading the pack of West Ham, Bournemouth, Brentford, Fulham and Newcastle United, who are all keeping tabs on the Moroccan international’s development [TBR Football].
Therefore, Clement faces the possibility of losing both his centre forwards in January, and while Shankland’s contract at Hearts expires at the end of the campaign, Rangers may need to move now.
The 29-year-old has failed to replicate last season’s efforts this term, wherein he scored 24 goals in the Scottish Premiership with only three goals in 16 outings thus far.
Regardless, quality does not disappear overnight, and Shankland knows where the back of the net is, unlike some currently plying their trade at Ibrox – with so few available options in January – he would be the ideal recruit should Rangers lose Igamane and/or Dessers once the transfer window opens.
