DEAL CONFIRMED: Leeds has agreed to the deal with celtic united just now…

Leeds United snapped up the defender to bolster their defensive department under former boss Jesse Marsch whilst they were still in the Premier League. However, they were relegated to the Championship during his first season.

Wober, 26, was loaned out to Borussia Monchengladbach in the last campaign and went on to play 27 games for the Bundesliga side in all competitions, chipping in with two goals from the back. He returned to Elland Road this past summer for pre-season and ended up staying put beyond the end of the last transfer window.

The centre-back sustained an injury but he is now back available for selection for Daniel Farke’s side. However, he is struggling to get into the team.

He has made one appearance for the Whites so far this term and that was in the Carabao Cup against fellow second tier outfit Middlesbrough.

Leeds United should sell defender

Cutting ties with Wober in January would be a shrewd move by Leeds United.

It would free up space and funds in their ranks to help pave the way for new arrivals.

The Austria international, who has 29 caps to his name, has fallen down the pecking order and hasn’t featured once in the league.

Although he provides back-up, there is no point paying a player they signed in the top flight to sit on the bench. He is under contract until June 2027.

Wober has made the squad six times this season but hasn’t been brought on.

The Vienna-born man started out at Rapid Wien and broke into their first-team as a youngster. He then had spells at Ajax and Sevilla before joining Red Bull Salzburg in 2019.

Wober was a hit during his time in Austria under Marsch and played 125 games, finding the net nine times, before Leeds United came calling. He has since made 20 appearances altogether.

What now?

The Whites have a big decision to make on what to do with him this winter.

They are aiming for promotion and are currently sat in 3rd place in the table behind Sunderland and Sheffield United after their 2-0 win over QPR last time out.
