DEAL CONFIRMED: Aston villa has agreed deal to sign a world-class star

Aston Villa summer signing Ian Maatsen missed an opportunity to impress Unai Emery on international duty after failing to play a single minute for the Netherlands.

The Dutchman joined the Villans from Chelsea in the most recent transfer window in a deal worth £37.5million [Sky Sports].

It has been a tough spell for the left back at Villa Park after featuring from the start just once this campaign, in the EFL Cup clash against Wycombe Wanderers.

The 22-year-old had the chance to force his way into Emery’s thoughts on international duty but after playing zero minutes, this is unlikely to be the case.

Since joining the club, Maatsen has only been afforded 118 minutes of Premier League action despite signing amid plenty of fanfare from supporters.

His largest share of league minutes so far this season came against Wolves as the Dutchman was brought on at half time for an injured Lucas Digne.

This saw him register 29 touches of the ball throughout which he utilised to make 13 passes with an 87 per cent pass accuracy [FotMob] which is about as positive as things got.

Across the rest of the clash, the former Borussia Dortmund loanee failed to register a successful dribble, tackle or duel win, maintaining a zero per cent win rate in all three aspects.

In the Champions League, the left back came on against Bayern Munich in the final 30 minutes and again performed quite poorly and failed to make a positive impression.

He picked up a yellow card while also failing to win a duel, losing three, or a tackle as the Villans managed to see out a 3-0 win.
