David Moyes tipped for surprise return to London just months after exit

Former West Ham boss David Moyes has been tipped for a potential return to the Premier League, with the Scot linked to London rivals Crystal Palace amid their poor start to the season.

Moyes has been without a club since the end of the 23/24 season, replaced in East London by former Real Madrid and Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui despite finishing in the top ten of the table and fresh off the club’s Europa Conference League win the season prior.

The Hammers have had a rocky start to life under the new manager, picking up just two wins this season. However, things seem to be flourishing for the Spaniard after their impressive 4-1 drilling of Ipswich Town, with star boy Mohammed Kudus bagging his first goal this season.

This is not the first time Moyes has been pressed about a potential return to the dugout, the 61-year-old was previously turned down the suggestion he would take over the Scotland job after their disappointing Euro 2024 campaign in an interview with TalkSport.

Could Moyes return?

Looking back at Moyes’ second stint at the East London club, it’s no surprise that a club of the ilk of Crystal Palace would turn to his experienced head amid their poor form so far this season.

The former Everton boss managed 230 games in all competitions during this second stint and picked up an average of 1.53 points per game, his best record since his infamous stint at Manchester United (1.73), and just 0.01 points behind his tally at Everton, according to Transfermarkt.

While things may have ended poorly at West Ham, the Scot managed 6th and 7th-place finishes in back-to-back seasons at the London Stadium. Additionally, winning the club’s first major trophy since 1980 and the first in Europe since 1965.

Palace seems to be happy with current manager Oliver Glasner, but with no wins in seven games so far and a place in the bottom three at the time of writing, there is no doubt chairman Steve Parish could look for a change soon.
