Daniel Farke already has Max Wober replacement waiting by at Leeds United
Leeds United have found themselves in a bit of a defensive pickle thanks to the recent injuries they have sustained.
All three of Ethan Ampadu, Ilia Gruev and Max Wober have found themselves sidelined for extended periods, which has left the Whites somewhat light in defence.
In terms of Ampadu and Gruev, Daniel Farke has both Joe Rothwell and Ao Tanaka who can slot in and fill the void left by the absent duo.
Centre-back, however, is where things get a little bit more tricky. Leeds only have Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk available at their disposal and if they find themselves injured, Farke hasn’t got many options.
That is unless he considers handing a debut to academy graduate James Debayo. Farke himself has shared that he’s been “impressed” with the performances of the centre-back, with the German himself even mooting the possibility of the 19-year-old being given his debut soon.
Leeds United don’t need to sign anyone to cover for Max Wober
Although Wober is set to be out for around five weeks, it feels pointless for the West Yorkshire outfit to go out and spend their money when Debayo is ready and waiting to be put in.
He may still be young but age didn’t stop Farke from giving Archie Gray a chance last season and look where the midfielder has found himself now.
Debayo been included in Leeds’ squad on occasions this term and even stunned Karl Darlow after flicking and then nutmegging him during half-time of the 1-1 draw against Norwich on 1 October.
Cheikhou Kouyate’s name has been thrown around as someone that Leeds could delve into the free agent market for, with the former West Ham United man even passing his medical [Graeme Bailey, 14 October].
