Cyriel Dessers makes Rangers exit decision as Atlanta United transfer talks held
The Di Marzio journalist reported via X on Tuesday (20 August) that the two clubs were in talks over a £4.6million transfer for the forward, with an agreement thought to be close ahead of the transfer deadline.
However, the Nigerian forward didn’t agree to the move despite talks being held between the two clubs to try and agree the terms of his Ibrox exit this summer.
Will Cyriel Dessers exit Rangers amid Atalanta United transfer rumours?
From the moment the transfer window opened at the start of the summer, Dessers has been linked with a move away from Rangers consistently with several clubs all over the globe believed to be eager to secure his signature.
The forward himself has even discussed this constant speculation, admitting that he is eager to remain in Glasgow beyond the end of the transfer window as he continues to improve week after week in a Light Blues shirt.
Most fans will agree that the Nigerian international is incredibly frustrating to watch as he spurns chance after chance in front of goal, but he does remain Philippe Clement’s side’s most consistent source of goals.
Both Danilo and Hamza Igamane have struggled with fitness issues so far this term and while they’re closing in on complete returns, they cannot be trusted to start games and lead the line week in and week out.
Rangers would be incredibly naive to sanction Dessers’ exit so close to the end of the window. He would need replacing in the final days of August and Clement’s side already have so much work to do to get their squad up to speed.
