CRAIG MCPHERSON: SPAIN PRE-SEASON TRAINING CAMP KEY FOR PREPARATIONS
CRAIG McPHERSON believes Rangers’ pre-season training camp in Spain this week will be crucial in laying the foundations for the season ahead.
The Gers kick off their SWPL campaign next weekend with a trip to the northeast to face Aberdeen, but not before a week of intense hard work under the sun in Spain.
It promises to be a vital period for the new faces in the squad to gel together, culminating on Saturday evening in a friendly clash against a talented Levante side.
Speaking to RangersTV after the side’s first session in the heat, McPherson stressed the importance of the training camp for several aspects: “The first thing is that it gives us the chance to train in warmer temperatures, where you can be a bit more relaxed with the sessions and, in particular, give you more time to walk through the tactical work which the conditions back home don’t allow.
“We had the chance to do that this morning and we’ll do so later on in the week.
We’ll have tough sessions throughout the week then we have the game against Levante on Saturday evening. We’re building towards that and making sure the girls are ready.
“The physical part is a major part of pre-season and it’s a tough period without getting an injury. You also add the tactical and technical work too.
“We do a mixture of all three things. It’s a chance for them to ask questions and, anything they’re not sure about, we’re able to explain it to them.
“Jo [Potter] is able to do the tactical work on the pitch and make them see the picture that we’re wanting to establish.”
The Light Blues moved early in the summer transfer window to secure several new signings and this week’s trip to Spain represents one of the first opportunities for the team to bond as a collective over an extended period of time.
