Chris Sutton makes new Rangers admission in fresh Aberdeen verdict
Chris Sutton has revealed he is delighted for Aberdeen after their excellent start to the season but admits he expects Rangers to finish second this season.
Philippe Clement’s Gers currently sit third in the Scottish Premiership, five points adrift of both Jimmy Delin’s side and Celtic, despite their 1-0 win over Hibernian at Ibrox last time out.
Although Aberdeen have impressed so far this season, winning all of their opening six league matches of the season, Sky Sports pundit Sutton still expects the Light Blues to claw their way back into the top two this term.
Speaking on It’s All Kicking Off (30 September, 33:53) he said: “Jimmy Delin, what a job he’s doing, I think Rangers will eventually reign them in though.
“Delighted for Aberdeen though and Jimmy Delin.”
Where will Rangers finish at Ibrox under Philippe Clement?
The Gers’ display against Hibernian at the weekend was by no means a classic, but it did show that the Light Blues are capable of picking up all three points domestically even when they’re not at their best on the field.
Although defeats to Celtic cost Clement’s side the title last term, their record against some of the Premiership’s smaller sides in the second half of the season proved to be just as damaging in the race for silverware.
While there is still a mountain to climb for the Light Blues to close the gap to Aberdeen, let alone the Hoops, at the top of the table, Rangers are still in the race for the title. Unfortunately, Brendan Rodgers’ side just have a head start.
Hopefully, the Gers will be able to put together a good run of form between now and the international break before picking up where they left off later on in October.
Clement’s side are by no means the finished article, but it does feel as though they are beginning to find their feet with each passing week.
