ùCallum Wilson has already offered Leeds United hope of choosing them this summer
Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson has emerged as an option for Leeds United if The Whites manage to get promoted to the Premier League at the end of the season.
In January, Leeds wanted a striker but failed to get a deal for Southampton’s Cameron Archer over the line despite Leeds making a loan bit for Archer. Others were linked but nothing ever materialised.
It leaves Leeds with just two options up top at the moment. Joe Gelhardt has gone on loan to Hull and Patrick Bamford remains injured, leaving Leeds with just Mateo Joseph and Joel Piroe as options.
Even if Leeds don’t get promoted, they will need to sign a striker but if the club do win a place in the Premier League then LeedsUnited.News have been told that Leeds could sign
The situation over Callum Wilson’s future at Newcastle United
At the moment, nine-time England striker Wilson is out of contract at Newcastle in the summer. The forward is said to be on a contract worth far more than £100,000 a week, more than Alexander Isak.
The Athletic say there is an option to extend the contract but it is unlikely Newcastle agree to trigger that extension, given Wilson has been somewhat injury prone over the last few seasons under Eddie Howe.
So the chances are, Leeds could be pursuing a free agent instead of having to agree a fee or trying to sign a player on loan in the form of Wilson. Whether they can meet his wage demands is another story.
Leeds have an advantage because Wilson loves Elland Road
Rewind towards the end of the 2022-23 season and with Sam Allardyce in charge, Leeds played host to Newcastle United as Allardyce tried in vain to keep Leeds in the Premier League – which ultimately failed.
