Callum McGregor responds after hearing Scott Brown’s verdict on Celtic’s win over Slovan Bratislava
After all the build-up and all the hype over Celtic’s foray into the new Champions League format, Brendan Rodgers’ side delivered a blistering performance to blow away Slovan Bratislava.
The 5-1 defeat of Bratislava is Celtic’s biggest win in the tournament after goals from Liam Scales, Kyogo Furuhashi, Arne Engels, Daizen Maeda and £9.5m summer signing, Adam Idah, put the Slovakians to the sword.
Celtic banished the much-spoke-about winless opening game run after a second-half blitz secured a vital three points to place Rodgers’ side in a lofty second place just behind Bayern Munich on goal difference after the German side’s 9-2 win over Dinamo Moscow.
The win left the fans buzzing and on TNT Sports, former Celtic captain, Scott Brown, said it was one of the best performances he’s seen from Celtic in the Champions League in a long time.
Scott Brown blown away by ‘exceptional’ Celtic
Brown has been involved in plenty of Champions League and European nights for Celtic over his illustrious career but even he admits that he was blown away by what he witnessed at Celtic Park.
Brown said, “It could have been four or five at half-time. If I’m honest it really could have been. It was one of the best performances I’ve seen at Celtic Park in a long, long time.
“I’ve not watched Celtic too much in the last season but that was exceptional.
“I enjoyed watching that. You can imagine how the fans feel. They are all bouncing about the stadium.
“They’re enjoying themselves and quite rightly so. These nights don’t come along that ofter, especially here.”
Callum McGregor: Celtic ‘fully deserved’ Bratislava win
And after being told about Scott Brown’s assessment of Celtic’s performance, Callum McGregor hailed his teammate’s overall performance.
McGregor said, “It was a fantastic start. Especially in the second half. The energy, the quality of the goals. I thought we were real dangerous in the counter-attack as well.
