Breaking News:What Nottingham Forest win says about Nuno’s Premier League plan as transfer hints dropped
Nuno Espirito Santo could reflect on plenty of positives from Nottingham Forest’s third outing of pre-season – but also one potentially quite considerable negative.
Millwall seemingly forgot Tuesday night’s match at the Pinatar Arena was supposed to be a friendly. A succession of horrible challenges from the Championship outfit left Reds fans wincing and Elliot Anderson a crumpled heap on the ground after one of them.
Just three matches into his Forest career, Anderson has already had the makings of being a terrific addition. Tuesday evening had started off as another solid outing for the former Newcastle United man.
He had looked comfortable on the ball, had played some nice passes and had tried his luck with an effort from a Morgan Gibbs-White pass. In each of his pre-season outings, he had been positive and showed a willingness to get his team moving forward.
The dilemma for Nuno looked like being where best to play him. Against Millwall, Anderson was deployed on the left in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Morgan Gibbs-White in the 10 role and Nicolas Dominguez on the opposite side.
Now, though, the Reds head coach will be sweating on the fitness of one of his big summer signings. It was an awful challenge on Anderson just a few minutes before half-time. He immediately looked in pain and required treatment before making way.
Given how much he had impressed and how easily he had settled into the team, it is to be hoped the 21-year-old has not suffered anything serious. It would be a huge shame and a big blow if he is ruled out for any length of time.
Nuno has made no secret of the fact he wants more wide options before the window closes. Forest still have plenty of time to get their business done, but their lack of resources in that department showed against Millwall.
