Breaking News:Vaclav Cerny footage emerges in emotional message to media after Rangers win

Vaclav Cerny was honest and “emotional” after firing Rangers to a 2-0 victory over St Johnstone on 6 October, David Edgar has said.

The Heart and Hand podcaster posted on X (7 October) having watched Cerny’s post-match interview from Ibrox, with the Wolfsburg loanee scoring both goals.

Cerny’s brace came following a dismal performance in Europe against Lyon three days prior, having missed a golden chance in the 4-1 loss, admitting that he has had sleepless nights recently.

Edgar said: “This was a really honest, at times quite emotional interview – not the usual, media-trained lines.”

Vaclav Cerny can become a Rangers hero by turning form around

Scoring twice against St Johnstone to continue the Gers’ winning run in the Scottish Premiership could well be the perfect way for Cerny to restore some self-confidence after his glaring miss against Lyon.

However, any player in a Light Blues jersey is judged in the biggest of games, and with at least six more of those to come in Europe, Cerny will know that the pressure will be on for him to step up.

Having also been one of several below-par performers in the Gers’ 3-0 defeat to Celtic in this season’s first Old Firm clash, Cerny is also facing a challenge to impress in high-calibre domestic matches.

The Czechia international is, like Neraysho Kasanwirjo, on a straight loan at Ibrox, with any permanent transfer talks between the Gers and Wolfsburg set to wait until the summer of 2025 [iSport, 25 July].

For the time being at least, the onus is on Cerny to lock down his place on Philippe Clement’s right flank, and now is the time for the 26-year-old to show his quality on the biggest stage.
