Breaking News:Todd Cantwell disrespects Rangers teammates ahead of exit

Todd Cantwell has disrespected his Rangers teammates in the senior side and the B Team ahead of his expected exit to Blackburn, according to Derek Ferguson.

Ewood Park interest emerged via Alan Nixon on Patreon (26 August) and the situation has advanced with The Athletic reporting on 29 August that advanced talks were taking place over a £500,000 deal with a medical now due.

The ex-Norwich midfielder is leaving for a minor fee after requesting to leave the club this summer, but unlike Ianis Hagi he hasn’t been playing for the B Team after being left out of the senior set up.

And Ferguson believes his refusal to participate amounts to letting the other players at the club down, and laments the “terrible” way Cantwell’s Gers career has gone.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News he said: “He seems to have spat the dummy, thrown the toys out of the pram, and is refusing to play.

“I think it’s even disrespectful to the rest of the players in that dressing room. Even the B Team, the boys in that B Team, because a lot of guys want to make their way in the game, could he not even think in terms of, ‘Could I help them out?’ with playing in there.

“So there’s all of that side of it, but obviously it’s all about Todd I’m afraid at the moment. It’s terrible the way it’s worked out but aye it’d be best for everybody concerned if he was to get himself out of the club.”

Philippe Clement, Todd Cantwell had uneasy Rangers relationship

It seems Michael Beale was the key for Cantwell at Ibrox and the writing may have been on the wall for his Rangers career when he got off to a rough start under Philippe Clement and was substituted before half time in one of the Belgian’s first games against Aris Limassol.

There is clearly no way the Englishman should be leaving for such a small fee if the situation hadn’t gone badly wrong, but at this stage just finding a solution that ends the stand-off and gets his contract off the wage bill is a relative success.

Fans have been angered by his decision to hold himself out of games and seek an exit so there looked to be no way back for him in Glasgow.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues are now going to sign a new defender before the deadline.
