Brown considered his options and eventually decided to commit his future to his current club by signing a new contract until 2027.
Brendan Rodgers thinks Scott Brown’s top-flight time will come
Brendan Rodgers, preparing to face St Johnstone this weekend, took a call from his former captain and imparted some helpful advice.
The Celtic boss explained in a media conference: “I think for him to manage at the top level here in Scotland. It’s only a matter of time. Whether that’s with Ayr or someone else, it’s a matter of time.
“It was an open conversation; all I ever do is recommend. I would never tell anyone what to do when they ask for advice. He knows his own mind. He knows that he’s got a few people he can reach out to just to get a different perspective.
“Scott’s doing a fantastic job at Ayr; he and Stephen Whittaker and his staff are doing really well there. They’ve obviously lifted Ayr into a really good place, having joined them last season. I think for Scott there’s no rush. I’ve got no doubt he’ll be a really successful manager.
“For Scott it’s not about a club for his next step, it’s about the right club. I always think that, especially when you’re a young manager, getting to the right club is important. But not if you’re already at a good club. He’s at a good club, and he’s happy. I wasn’t surprised that he didn’t take it.”
Promotion would show Scott Brown has a bright managerial future
Of course, it’s still early days, and Ayr United have played more games than those around them, but Brown has a chance to make a historic impact this season.
If he can somehow earn a promotion with Ayr, it would be strong proof that Brown has talent as a manager and firmly put him in the running for bigger jobs down the line.
They’re a club on the up and could pass St Johnstone in the football pyramid. In time, Brown’s decision could look even better than it does now. He’ll be backing himself to succeed in the progressive environment he is currently in.
