BREAKING NEWS;Sunderland confirm Aiden McGeady as Regis Le Bris replacement suddenly

One former Sunderland star could help Regis Le Bris’ bid for promotion this season.

The Black Cats have had a brilliant start to the 2024/25 Championship campaign under new boss Regis Le Bris.

Sunderland currently find themselves at the top of the Championship table level on points with previously relegated Premier League outfit Sheffield United, and there is every confidence that this positive nine game run where they have accumulated an impressive 19 points can hopefully continue.

Le Bris’ side have had several players across the side perform, particularly in the centre-of-the-park, with both Chris Rigg and Jobe Bellingham playing with a maturity and quality that goes far beyond their years.

However, there is a clear issue with squad depth when it comes to the midfield, and a previous injury to new signing Alan Browne made that glaringly obvious, which should make Sunderland search proactively for options ahead of the January transfer window, and one option certainly makes sense that will help the side.

Sunderland should capture Jordan Henderson in January

With Browne’s arrival from Preston North End, they have managed to utilise him for his rich experience in the second tier, and that has without a doubt made a significant difference to the side, and the Black Cats could easily replicate that by signing former Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson.

The former England captain, who is now fashioning his trade abroad with Ajax, is reportedly gaining interest from UK clubs as a result of his lack of playing time, per The Sun.

A move back to Wearside has not been ruled out, with it very much ‘on the cards’ at this moment, and there will be no surprise to see him targeted as a result of his experience, whilst also helping to bring a former fan favourite back to the side.
