Everton have considered bids for plenty of players this summer, but only a select few have the honour of being picked out by Kevin Thelwell.
His list of targets is likely extremely lengthy, such is the meticulous nature of this director of football, and as such any setback is hardly felt because there always remains an alternative.
It is this shrewd, forward-thinking strategy that the Toffees should have been employing for years under Farhad Moshiri, but better late than never.
Now, this particular report seeks to outline what seems like a contingency plan for a potential exit rather than a failed acquisition, and it actually makes sense.
Everton consider bid for Yuri Alberto
Portuguese outlet BolaVIP are the latest to detail Everton’s pursuit of a striker, with this transfer merry-go-round fuelled by Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s uncertain contract future.
The Englishman, despite having spent eight solid years at Goodison Park, has been left somewhat disillusioned by the takeover turmoil and lack of funds for his new deal.
As such, he is seeking greener pastures this summer, if reports are to be believed.
And with that in mind, plenty of replacements have already been touted, with Armando Broja one Everton target that refuses to go away.
The Brazilian marksman Yuri Alberto is another, with this report now claiming: ‘Yuri was also in Everton’s sights, but the Toffees did not make any official proposal for the São Jorge Park team. The thought process is that this does not happen, since other names were sought in the market.
‘A few Saudi football teams have also made recent enquiries to Timão and would like to count on the player. The initial contacts included an offer of 20 million euros (£17m) (R$ 121 million at the current price).’
Who is Yuri Alberto?
It is a testament to the striker’s quality that Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig has been so effusive in his praise for the 23-year-old.
After all, it has been more than warranted given how prolific a short career he has enjoyed.
Described as a ‘complete forward’ who is a ‘clinical finisher’, last season saw the Brazilian notch 17 goals across all competitions, backing up his 15-goal haul from the campaign prior.
Having started his career with Santos, emerging through the youth setup, a brief spell with Internacional finally saw the 6-foot finisher make his first foray into European football.
Zenit Saint Petersburg proved a troublesome relationship though, and his return to Brazil has once again been profitable, even seeing Alberto finally make his senior debut for the national side.
Widely regarded as a solid all-around attacker, capable of finding the net and leading the line with fine hold-up play and high pressure, this might mark an intelligent move to replace Dominic Calvert-Lewin, with little risk given the fact that he could likely be sold on in the future.
