RANGERS confirms attacker Scott Wright has joined Birmingham City on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee, subject to international clearance.

Wright arrived at Rangers in the winter 2021 window and featured towards the end of that season as Rangers claimed the Scottish Premiership crown.

He would go on the following year to play in the Europa League final, as well as playing and scoring in the Scottish Cup final win over Hearts.

He also featured in last season’s Premier Sports Cup final win against Aberdeen and in all, made 120 appearances for the club and scored 12 goals.

Scott leaves Rangers with the best wishes and thanks of everyone at the club.

He has been training away from the first-team squad at Rangers and has not been involved in any of their fixtures in the new season.

Cantwell made 64 appearances during his time with the Glasgow giants, scoring 13 goals and providing 12 assists.

The midfielder is an experienced operator in the Championship, notching seven goals and nine assists in 86 appearances for Norwich and Bournemouth.

Todd Cantwell is already on his way to join Blackburn Rovers after a £500,000 transfer was agreed [Daily Record, 29 August], with his medical in progress on the morning the window shuts [Raman Bhardwaj, 30 August].

Matondo’s contract is said to have him on “a hell of a lot of money” for the Scottish Premiership according to Ibrox News pundit Derek Ferguson.

If Blackburn are taken by the controversial Cantwell then they could well be interested in the far-less divisive Matondo, but whether they can afford both deals remains to be seen.
