BREAKING NEWS:Rangers top player “Todd Cantwell” announce his departure due to…
Bullish Todd Cantwell insists he is “proud” of the transfer request that sparked his Rangers escape to Blackburn Rovers as doubled down on his verdict on Philippe Clement.
The playmaker has emerged as a hero at Ewood Park this season after reviving his stuttering career away from the Scottish Premiership. The 26-year-old endured a rocky relationship with boss Clement after the Belgian took over the hot seat from Michael Beale. Cantwell would bring the curtain down on his time at Ibrox on the final day of the summer transfer window for a merge fee with the midfielder forced to train with the B team after being frozen out of the first-team plans after submitting a transfer request.
But that was far from the first chapter in the tumultuous connection the pair endured at Ibrox. The gaffer brutally subbed Cantwell off Ross McCausland after just 35 minutes in the Europa League clash with Aris Limassol before criticising his lack of width on the right flank during the clash with the Cypriot side – with both parties teasing that the full story had yet to come out following his departure.
Cantwell has openly suggested he would love a move back to Ibrox one day but has now dropped an insight into his woes behind the scenes in Govan. Reflecting on the end of his time at Rangers, he told BBC Radio Lancashire : “To have a few of those moments in my career so far is probably uncommon. It felt a bit unlucky.
“Situations and different things have followed me around – I’ve got on with the manager and they’ve gone, or I haven’t maybe seen eye to eye with the tactical side of things. Your career is short and you look back and realise that. “I’m 26 now, not a young boy any more, and if you don’t feel you’re in the right environment to play your best, but also be happy. Happiness is a thing that often gets looked past in football.
