BREAKING NEWS;Rangers star refuses to sign a new deal and is determined to leave the club..

Rangers have to find a senior option in central midfield who can be a leader on the pitch like Steven Davis or Barry Ferguson, says the latter’s brother Derek.

The Light Blues seemed to be closing in on a surprise move for Norwich midfielder Kenny McLean earlier this summer [Rangers Review, 1 July] but he Scot has since ruled himself out of leaving Carrow Road [Norwich Evening News, 20 July].

Multiple loan offers have since gone in at Sevilla for Joan Jordan [Fernando Serrano, 24 July] but he won’t be the answer to help lead talented youngsters Connor Barron and Mohamed Diomande after the club pulled out of the pursuit over the weekend [Rangers Review, 28 July].

But Ferguson believes it is of the utmost importance to have a midfield general in ahead of the new season.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News he said it was: “Oh massive. The boy Barron’s come in and played in the middle of the park against Man United with Diomande.

“They’re two good players but especially in that position, this is just me personally, I think you need experience.

“You think of the job that Steve Davis had done for a number of years, that lynchpin in the middle of the park.

“We need that badly. There’s talk of one or two coming in but it’s such an important position.

“We need leaders. We need good experienced players. There was talk about the boy Jordan from Seville maybe coming on board.

“Even mentioning my brother. There was a period of time where my brother Barry, he got other players playing.

“Sometimes if he wasn’t at the top of his game he got other players playing. We need that type in at the moment.”
