Breaking News:Rangers must step up midfield transfer pursuits after Joan Jordan rejection
Joan Jordan rejecting the notion of a move to Rangers shows that Philippe Clement’s side must do more to bring in a big name this summer.
Estadio Deportivo reported on 7 August that with Jordan having been completely frozen out by Sevilla this summer, Rangers were one of the clubs mentioned to be interested in signing him.
The Light Blues did approach Sevilla with a loan offer for the Spanish midfielder last month but couldn’t agree on a split of wages [Chris Jack, 28 July], and Jordan’s entourage have now reportedly denied any talks with the Gers.
That denial from Jordan suggests any hope of reviving a deal for the 30-year-old is highly unlikely, but also highlights that the Gers must do more if they’re to sign any big names in what’s left of the window.

While there’s been plenty of transfer activity at Ibrox this summer, with nine players in and nine players out, few of the new arrivals have been the type to make the Gers’ biggest rivals sit up and take notice.
A very youth-focused transfer policy, which has seen the bears sign six players aged 22 or younger, has been somewhat successful thus far, with 20-year-old Brazilian Jefte impressing against Dynamo Kyiv.
However, Connor Barron has been the only new face to start either of the Gers’ two matches so far this season, suggesting that more headline signings are needed to add quality to the squad.
Clement has openly stated that at present, his side are weaker than they were last season, but the additions of Robin Propper and Vaclav Cerny, aged 30 and 26 respectively, should remedy that.
Propper is expected to be a mainstay of the side once he eventually breaks into the team, and Cerny’s pinpoint cross allowed Cyriel Dessers to pounce late on against Dynamo for his first goal of the season.
However, much more is needed before 30 August if the Gers are to get close to Celtic by next May, and with the likes of Kenny McLean heavily linked, now is the time for Clement to demand the highest possible standards when adding the final touches to his mass overhaul of the Light Blues squad.
In other Rangers news, Derek Ferguson labelled Dessers as “sleeping” before be popped up to score th equaliser against Dynamo Kyiv.
