Breaking News:Rangers legend accuses Ibrox board of treating fans like DIRT as he lets rip at ‘shambles

Charlie Miller has accused the blundering Rangers board of treating fans like DIRT after one calamity after another.

The nine-in-a-row legend unleashed a stinging blast at under-fire chairman John Bennett for the chaotic mess the club finds itself in. Gers chiefs have been unable to sufficiently bankroll the transfer rebuild that Philippe Clement promised at the end of last season and paid the price on Tuesday night as they crashed out of the Champions League at the third qualifying round – costing them the chance of a much-needed £40million windfall.

The cash-strapped Light Blues are already out of pocket after being forced to rent Hampden following delays to redevelopment work at Ibrox, leaving them homeless for an indefinite period of time. And the club’s coffers have been drained even more by a multi-million pound kit deal dispute with Elite Sports Group Ltd that was eventually settled this month for an undisclosed sum.

Scunnered fans have already written off their chances of stopping Celtic winning a record-equalling 55th title this season and while Miller has lost faith in the Ibrox hierarchy, the Rangers legend has thrown his full support behind Clement.

“Oh, 100 per cent I believe we need to stick by Clement,” he told the Daily Record. “He’s shown last season that with a fully fit squad, he can be an effective coach. The trouble is that he’s just not had the money to spend. The squad he had last season is better than the one he’s got this time and that’s saying something. The last few years since Steven Gerrard left have been a shambles signing-wise.

“The club had a great opportunity after winning the league but didn’t take the chance to move forward. The fact they’ve stood still is so disappointing. We should have backed Gerrard after winning 55 and allowed his side to kick on. The fans understand the situation. We’ve no money to sign players – how there’s no money left I don’t understand.

“If you have a winning team, then everything else at a club takes care of itself. All these mistakes off the pitch add up and take away from money that could be better spent on it. How on earth did we end up in this situation with the stadium being out of use? It’s diabolical. You’ve got Edmiston House costing millions dearer than it should. How? HOW?

“Honestly, it’s just been one thing after another and the fans are the ones bearing the brunt. They’re left with a team who, while they work hard, just simply aren’t good enough. It’s the fans I feel sorry for. They’ve put in bloody fortunes and this is how they’re repaid.

“The situation with the stadium, the whole thing is so amateurish. The fans have been treated like dirt. I’m just so disappointed for them. Expectations at Rangers will always be high – but the board can’t keep expecting the fans to keep digging deep without giving them a proper team to watch on the pitch.”
