Breaking News:Rangers and Celtic given clarity amid new Scott McKenna transfer development

Rangers and Celtic have both lost out on the services of Scott McKenna who joined Las Palmas after his deal at Nottingham Forest expired, according to Football Scotland.

The news outlet reported on 8 August that the two Old-Firm sides were linked with the Scotland international while Hull City even held talks to sign him.

However, the La Liga side made an announcement on 8 August that the 27-year-old has been signed permanently.

Scott McKenna would have been a solid signing for Rangers

Alex McLeish praised the centre-back in 2018 for his performances for the national team.

He told the BBC: “Scott McKenna was amazing tonight. He had a really strong game. He has had two excellent games and was even better tonight.”

Since then, McKenna has come a long way and is a more polished defender with Premier League experience under his belt.

Along with that, his international appearances for Scotland demonstrate his capability to perform at a high level.

Rangers, as a club with aspirations of competing in European competitions and regaining the league title, would have benefited from McKenna’s experience and skill set.

The 27-year-old’s defensive prowess and ability to read the game would have bolstered Gers’ backline.

His physical presence and aerial ability would have been assets in both domestic and European fixtures.

It remains to be seen if McKenna remains on the radar of the Ibrox club as there’s always a chance of him returning to the United Kingdom in the next couple of years.

In other Rangers news, the club are locked in a transfer battle as they aim to bring an English striker to Ibrox on a free transfer.
