Breaking News:Rangers can instantly bank new £4million windfall within hours

Rangers will receive an instant £4million pay-out if they advance to the Champions League play-off round, according to the Scottish Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported in its print edition (12 August, page 63) that with their third qualifying round tie against Dynamo Kyiv level at 1-1 going into the second leg, a multi-million reward is on the line.

Philippe Clement’s side will instantly bank that sum if they advance to a play-off tie against RB Salzburg or FC Twente, with the second leg against Dynamo at Hampden Park coming up on 13 August.

Furthermore, a huge £40m windfall is on the cards if the Gers can reach the group stage of the Champions League, potentially increasing the pressure on the squad at Hampden.

Rangers to bank millions within days?

Collecting an instant £4m payout for winning a single football match – even if that potentially comes via the lottery of a penalty shoot-out – would certainly be good news for the Gers’ restricted finances.

Their 1-1 draw in the first leg at Arena Lublin came thanks to a last-gasp equaliser from Cyriel Dessers, with Vaclav Cerny whipping in a pinpoint cross in the first moment of out-and-out quality they produced.

Despite netting twice in the Light Blues’ three games so far this season, Dessers is one player who could head to the exit before the end of the transfer window [Chris Jack, 5 August], with Clement using the funds to buy a new striker.

Though it’s unclear where a £4m windfall would be utilised by the club, Clement will hope it goes straight into the transfer kitty, allowing him to purchase that new number nine whilst also keeping Dessers.

The Bears will certainly need the extra firepower if they’re to make a mark on the Champions League group stages, but getting there ahead of RB Salzburg or FC Twente remains a huge task on paper.

The latter in particular, having seen their captain signed by Clement’s side this summer, will be out to get one up on the Gers, setting up a potentially fiery clash with a Champions League place on the line.

In other Rangers news, one journalist has doubts over Clement’s ability to get the best out of his squad with the club in “a mess”.
