BREAKING NEWS;Problems related to Joe hart resignation

The signing of Kasper Schmeichel ended months of speculation about who Celtic would replace Joe Hart.

Hart announced his retirement in February and it gave the club months to prepare a replacement for the treble-winning goalkeeper.

However, 20 linked players later and after what seemed like endless speculative headlines, Celtic signed Schmeichel for free just after adding Viljami Sinisalo to the ranks.

It was a shrewd piece of business by Brendan Rodgers as not only did he replace Hart but, the Celtic boss also set up a continuity plan for when the big Dane eventually hangs up his gloves.

Schmeichel reveals Celtic urgency

Kasper Schmeichel has had a fruitful career so far. At 37, the Denmark international has played in World Cups, Euros and some of the biggest teams in Europe.

But when he heard of Brendan Rodgers and Celtic’s interest, Schmeichel shares what his immediate reaction was.

Schmeichel said [Daily Record print edition page 47], “I’m a big NFL fan. I watch a little bit of college football as well. It’s a good experience.

“We discussed playing, obviously. I met up and I’d done a lot of travelling in the last three or four days. Coming from Europe, from holiday, then travelling over to the US and then travelling to North Carolina.

“It’s just basically I was asked how I was feeling. I said I’d love to get involved as quickly as possible if it could be arranged.

“Brendan’s a coach I know very, very well. I worked with him for three-and-a-half years at Leicester.

“It was probably the best time of my career in terms of my own level. It’s probably the best football I played, it was under him. So, to come here and be able to work with him again, hopefully we can replicate it.”
