BREAKING NEWS:Phillips could be subject to resignation if he fails to….

Hannibal Mejbri is a name which has gotten Rangers fans excited this summer.

The 21-year-old Manchester United talent has been strongly linked with a move to Ibrox as Philippe Clement revamps Rangers’ stuttering player trading model.

Tunisian international Hannibal has entered the final year of his contract at Manchester United and reports claimed Rangers were in ‘advanced’ talks with Mejbri last week.

These links were only emboldened when transfer guru Fabrizio Romano namedropped Rangers as Hannibal Mejbri suitors.

But any notion the Gers might snap the ex-Birmingham and Sevilla loanee up in time for today’s Champions League squad registration deadline have just been smashed.

Hannibal spotted in USA

Hannibal Mejbri was part of the Manchester United squad which defeated Rangers 2-0 at Murrayfield earlier in pre-season.

The Tunisian came off the bench for the Red Devils as goals from Amad Diallo and Joe Hugill condemned Philippe Clement’s struggling Gers side to defeat.

But with Manchester United now in the USA, Mejbri has once again been involved in a pre-season clash and it certainly doesn’t seem like he’s close to a move to Rangers.

Hannibal came off the bench in United’s 3-2 pre-season victory over Real Betis in San Diego, picking up an injury time yellow card for his troubles.

Man United have one more pre-season friendly to come against Liverpool in South Carolina on Sunday before heading back to the UK for a charity shield clash with Man City on August 10th.

Rangers v Celtic in hunt for Mejbri?

Whilst Rangers have been mentioned alongside Hannibal Mejbri by some reputable sources, the Ibrox side might face competition from across Glasgow.

According to reports in Tunisia, Celtic are also mulling over a bid for Hannibal Mejbri ahead of the new season.

It comes with Parkhead midfield pair Matt O’Riley and Reo Hatate both strongly linked with the Parkhead exit door this summer.

Should Celtic’s interest be legitimate, the Parkhead side’s bigger spending power and automatic qualification for the Champions League could work against the Gers.
