Breaking News:Philippe Clement told he has simple Leon Balogun decision for Dundee United v Rangers
Philippe Clement must always start Leon Balogun if he is fit as Rangers prepare to face Dundee United, Barry Ferguson has said.
The 36-year-old has only started one Scottish Premiership match so far this season, sustaining an injury and being substituted at half-time during the 6-0 win over Ross County.
While he played just 10 minutes in the 3-0 Old Firm derby defeat, the veteran defender is one of the most experienced players in the squad and is being tipped to start against the Tangerines.
Speaking via Go Radio on Friday (13 September), Ferguson said: “He’s been training. I would play Balogun all day long, all day long. I just like him and the presence he brings.
“He’s got good experience and does things really simple which I like from a centre-back. But do you know what he is there for? He goes and wins his headers, gets close to the No.9 and for me when he is fit and available, I would always play him and it would be up to who would be beside him.
“If you are going on Sunday’s game, I would put him beside John Souttar.”
Leon Balogun to start in Rangers v Dundee United?
Despite the additions of Robin Propper and Neraysho Kasanwirjo, joining Souttar in defence, Balogun is still the most experienced centre-back among Clement’s ranks.
With 20-year-old Clinton Nsiala plying his trade in the B team, continuing his development after leaving AC Milan, the manager has few options to choose from.

While Balogun has suffered several injuries during his time at Ibrox, it is difficult to remove the 36-year-old from the starting XI if he is fit and available.
The Gers will be hoping to pip Old Firm rivals Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title, especially after they missed out on winning the league last term, and Balogun could be crucial for that.
Clement’s side are already five points behind the Hoops, who are sat in first after four wins from four matches, and although it is very early in the season, the Gers must keep up with their rivals.
In other Rangers news, Philippe Clement is now desperate at Ibrox despite what the wage bill says.
