Breaking News:Philippe Clement told to give unwanted Alex Lowry Rangers shot after simply ridiculous strike

Philippe Clement should give Alex Lowry an opportunity to contribute for the Rangers first team, says Derek Ferguson.

The homegrown attacker hasn’t made a senior Gers appearance since the Belgian took over, making the bench just once for a 5-2 league win over Dundee last term, having been on loan at Hearts, injured, or out of favour over the past year.

Lowry, 21, made a preseason appearance in the dismal display at Birmingham City and seemingly paid the price, despite Clement being short of options prior to Nedim Bajrami’s Deadline Day transfer.

But he scored a screamer in a match-winning performance for the B Team against Clyde last month which was branded “simply ridiculous” by 4 Lads Had A Dream on 15 August when footage was posted online.

Ex-Ibrox midfielder Ferguson believes he should at least get a shot to challenge Tom Lawrence for a spot in the squad and feels his lack of impact in recent years could be down to not feeling wanted at his boyhood club.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News he said: “He plays well for the B Team. He was on loan with Hearts last season but he picked up an injury. There is a good player in there.

“He lost his mum about a year and a half to two years ago so I don’t know if that’s maybe had a part to play in it. If you lose a close family member it takes its toll on you.

He’s not even been on the bench. I would be inclined to give him an opportunity. Get him in the squad, make him feel at home, and if Lawrence isn’t producing then you can turn to Alex.

“‘There you go son, go and give us your best’. But you’ve got to feel wanted. Does he feel wanted? Does he feel part of it?”

Rangers door open with Todd Cantwell gone, Ianis Hagi blocked?

The Gers B Team has probably had more focus on it in recent months than it has for years with Todd Cantwell and Ianis Hagi both shunted out to train with the reserves.

The Englishman has now been sold to Blackburn after asking to leave, and Clement has again reiterated that the Romanian doesn’t have a route back in despite his agents categorically ruling out an exit [Digi Sport, 12 September].

Those two situations have overshadowed Lowry’s when it is hard to escape the feeling that this year could be now or never for his chances at Ibrox.
