Breaking News:Philippe Clement set to lose Johnly Yfeko at Rangers as transfer admission emerges
Philippe Clement has had little chance to use the Auchenhowie academy stars during his time as Rangers manager.
Ross McCausland looks to be the only academy graduate who has managed to secure his spot in the first-team squad, having earned his first chance under Steven Davis and staying under Clement.
Despite this, the Belgian may be keeping one eye on a current loanee, Johnly Yfeko, who is plying his trade in League One with Exeter City and is absolutely flying.
The 21-year-old centre-back has started all nine of the Grecians’ league matches so far, keeping a clean sheet in six of them, impressing head coach Gary Caldwell.
Of course, going out on loan is usually an integral part of a young player’s development, but Clement is now running out of time to promote the defender to the senior level after what Caldwell said recently.
Speaking via the Daily Record [10 October], he said: “Johnly is a young player with a huge future and if we could tie him down to be a permanent player at this club, then I think it would be a brilliant thing to do.
“Those discussions will happen and hopefully, that will be a thing where we can bring him into the club on a permanent basis because he is a brilliant player and a player with a huge future.”
Rangers to lose Johnly Yfeko at the end of the season?
Yfeko, who has been described as “incredibly impressive” by Football League expert George Elek [Not The Top 20 podcast], could return to Ibrox to prove himself at the club.
He has made just one senior appearance for the Gers since arriving in the summer of 2021, but given his lack of game time over the seasons, a move to England could very much be on the cards.
Considering his recent performances in League One, it would be a shame to see him leave permanently at the end of the season, but at least it could mean extra funds coming to Ibrox.
