BREAKING NEWS:Philippe Clement officially confirmed the departure of Dujon Sterling….
Rangers will “definitely” look to sell on Dujon Sterling after new contract developments at Ibrox. , according to Stevie Clifford.
The Light Blues confined in an official statement on Tuesday (1 October) that they had reached an agreement with the versatile Englishman to extend his stay in Glasgow after an impressive start at Ibrox.
Although Four Lads host Clifford has praised the Gers for their smart contract approach, he believes Philippe Clement’s side will already be plotting to sell the defender for a profit in the future.
Speaking on the Rangers Review YouTube channel (2 October) he said: “Rangers have acted quite smartly.
“He’s definitely somebody that they’re going to look to sell on, he’s English so he has that kind of homegrown appeal for teams down south that are looking for a utility and squad player that could kick on.
“In terms of an asset, he’s definitely that.”
What has happened to Dujon Sterling at Rangers and Ibrox?
He may not have quite managed to find his set position, but Sterling has become one of the most important and useful members of Clement’s first-team squad since he arrived in Glasgow last summer.
While the Englishman has struggled to play regularly so far this term through a mix of poor form and injury, he has still been called upon in the biggest games to step into midfield and add some bite to the side.
The Light Blues won’t want to lose him in future transfer windows, but they will accept this is the sort of deal that may need to happen if they want to be successful with their player trading model.
As Clifford suggests, Sterling is an asset and tying him down to a new deal protects that asset. With a new contract at Ibrox, his valuation will only go up and therefore ensure that the Gers get more cash if and when they decide to part ways with the defender.
It is good to see the Light Blues getting their house in order in this manner having seen so many stars leave for nothing over the last couple of seasons.
