BREAKING NEWS;Philippe Clement has confirmed the departure of Jack Butland few minutes ago..
Jack Butland’s representatives do not expect any offers for the Rangers goalkeeper ahead of August 30, according to the Daily Record.
The newspaper reported on Wednesday (28 August, page 46) that Philippe Clement is increasingly confident over the 31-year-old’s future at Ibrox, seeing him as the only unsellable squad member.
It is understood that, while the manager fears the decision could be taken out of his hands by the board after bowing out of Champions League qualification, there have been no new bids to consider.
The last interest in the shot-stopper came during the January transfer window when Nottingham Forest were readying a £15million move to acquire his signature [Alan Nixon].
Rangers confident of keeping Jack Butland ahead of August 30 deadline
Butland is one of the most important players in Clement’s squad, having kept the Gers in so many games last season with incredible saves between the sticks.
He has started the new 2024/25 campaign in the same fashion, keeping two clean sheets in the first three Scottish Premiership matches plus another in the Scottish League Cup against St Johnstone.
While the sale of Butland would offer up some more funds before the summer transfer window slams shut, it would be incredibly difficult to find someone of his calibre to replace him.
Of course, Liam Kelly has been signed as a backup for the new season, but few can fill the boots that the goalkeeper would leave if he were to depart Ibrox this summer.
Fans would certainly be disappointed if the 31-year-old were to secure a last-gasp exit away from Ibrox before 30 August, given he has only spent a season with the Gers, but that does not look likely at the moment.
In other Rangers news, the Gers’ title hopes have been boosted by a recent Celtic transfer development.
