Breaking News:Philippe Clement backed to hand Dujon Sterling start v Dynamo Kyiv after Rangers update

Dujon Sterling is going to be match fit and ready to start for Rangers’ Champions League qualifier against Dynamo Kyiv, according to Barry Ferguson.

The versatile Englishman is yet to start a game for the Light Blues this season but has been used as a second-half substitute in each of the Gers’ last two games ahead of Tuesday’s (13 August) clash.

While Clement has been reluctant to throw players straight into the starting XI following injuries, Go Radio pundit Ferguson believes the Belgian has to find a way to accommodate Sterling into his starting XI.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (12 August, 41:45) he said: “If he’s fully fit he has to start for me.

“He did have a few injury issues during pre-season and maybe they’re just being careful now. He came on last week and played another few minutes on Saturday.

“Now that he’s played a few minutes, he’s clearly going to be match fit, ready to play and ready to start and if that’s the case then sorry, he has got to play in the starting XI.”

Will Dujon Sterling play for Rangers against Dynamo Kyiv?

It isn’t an over-exaggeration to suggest that this is one of the biggest games of the season for Clement and Rangers, even though the campaign only got underway a matter of weeks ago.

The financial aspect of Champions League qualification will be very important to the Light Blues in the coming years and should the Gers progress, it could completely change the final weeks of the summer transfer window.

Because of this match’s importance, Clement simply has to name the strongest possible squad at his disposal and as Ferguson has suggested, that has to include Sterling in some way.

Whether that be in the centre of midfield or even as a winger or full-back, the Englishman has become Mr Reliable at Ibrox in the last couple of months and if he is in the starting XI, it will boost Rangers’ chance of progressing.

Hopefully, Ferguson is right and he is match fit so that he feature from the off at Hampden.
