Breaking News:Philippe Clement agents seek Rangers exit route with John Bennett promise due soon

Gary Keown believes that if Philippe Clement has any sense, he’ll be asking his agents to find a way out of Ibrox this summer.

This comes after the journalist wrote via the print edition of the Scottish Daily Mail (28 July, page 85) that his career could be “sent up in flames” if he stays with the Glasgow-based outfit any longer

Keown also reminded fans that there are only four days left until the initial deadline Gers Chairman John Bennett set for them to be given an update on where the club will be playing their opening games of the season.

“Only four days left for chairman John Bennett to come out with a ‘fuller, personal update’ promised on his chaos-stricken club,” Keown wrote.

“And, only nine perhaps, until the fixture that sens the bonfire that is the ongoing mismanagement of Rangers going out of control.

“Philippe Clement, explaining for the umpteenth time a couple of weeks ago that life at Ibrox is nothing like what he expected, insisted he was motivated to stick with the major rebuild needed for the long term.

“He had to say that though, didn’t he? If the manager has any sense, he’ll already have his representatives looking around for potential exit routes – because he is on a hiding to nothing here, in a volcanic environment that could easily send his career up in flames.

Rangers need to do everything they can to keep Philippe Clement this summer

Although the opinion of Keown is that Clement should be looking for pastures new, what the Belgian is building at Ibrox feels quite special.

Indeed, he’s failed to triumph over arch-rivals Celtic during his Glasgow stint but in terms of the squad he’s starting to build, things look quite promising.

The club have had a clear idea in mind since the start of the window in terms of the talent that they want to bring in.

It is fairly evident that the club are starting to look into the future after the additions of players such as Connor Barron and Jefte were sanctioned.

Clement hasn’t yet shown his full potential but something feels special about this season, should they continue to bring the right players in over the summer that is.

And, despite the ongoing Ibrox debacle [Daily Record, 17 July], with Bennett’s promise due in just a few days, the staff, players, and fans will all be hoping to have a clearer picture in mind for the start of the season.
