Breaking News:New Rangers striker target emerges after Philippe Clement drops Todd Cantwell

HITC understands that Rangers want to sign a new striker this summer and have identified two top targets.

It has been a busy summer transfer window for Rangers so far with six new signings already walking through the door at Ibrox.

But one area that has not yet been addressed by Philippe Clement is at centre-forward, where Rangers are severely lacking in depth.

With Kemar Roofe leaving the club and Fabio Silva ending his loan spell, Rangers find themselves short up front with only Cyriel Dessers to lead the line.

But HITC understands that Rangers are looking closely at both Lyndon Dykes and Lawrence Shankland as they eye up a new striker this summer.

Dykes, who missed Euro 2024 through injury, has emerged as an option for Rangers but the club hierarchy understands it would not be a cheap deal to pull off.

Rangers were linked with a move for Dykes last summer as they looked to replace Alfredo Morelos.

The Scottish striker, who previously played for Livingston, signed a long-term contract with QPR last summer. But QPR’s move for Slovenian striker Zan Celar means the Championship side could now be open to selling him.

Todd Cantwell set to leave after transfer request bombshell

Clement dropped the news that Todd Cantwell has submitted a second transfer request to leave Rangers this summer.

After finishing a press conference in Birmingham, Clement came back moments later to inform the media about Cantwell’s situation.

“He came a while ago to say he feels ready for another adventure, that he wants another challenge,” he said.

Cantwell is now expected to leave Ibrox this summer, and HITC can confirm that the 26-year-old wants to move back south to England.

Cantwell’s family stayed in England after he completed his Rangers move in 2023 and it is understood to be a big factor in his decision to request a transfer.

Lawrence Shankland and Lyndon Dykes

Both forwards would be popular signings at Ibrox, but neither will be cheap.

However, if Rangers plan to de-throne Celtic and return to the top of the food chain in Scotland then they may need to reach deep into their pockets.

The sale of Cantwell may prove to be useful in raising cash for either deal. One option that Rangers cannot choose is heading into season without a new striker.
