Breaking News:Motherwell blasted on BBC Sportscene after what pundit noticed v Rangers

Motherwell were “all over the place” in their attempt to prevent Rangers from scoring the opener during their Premiership fixture, according to Neil McCann.

Speaking on BBC Sportscene (10 August) after the Gers’ 2-1 win at Hampden Park, McCann said that the Motherwell defenders simply dropped off as Cyriel Dessers popped up at the back post to make it 1-0.

Dan Casey was picked out in particular after Mohamed Diomande was given time and space to head Scott Wright’s lofted pass back across the face of goal, with an unmarked Dessers on hand to tap home.

Analysing the lead-up to the goal, McCann said: “When you’re looking at how poor Motherwell were, that (passage of play) was indicative.

“Right there in that clip – they were all over the place.”

Defending to be desired at both ends as Rangers seal first victory

Following a lacklustre 0-0 draw with Hearts in their first Premiership match of the new season, Clement got the response he wanted at Hampden Park in their 2-1 win over Motherwell.

Dessers’ aforementioned goal came just 13 minutes into the contest and looked to be a sign of things to come with the Steelmen all at sea in defence, but that also proved to be the case at the other end too.

Robin Propper, making his Light Blues debut after a delay caused by visa issues, skewed a left-sided cross past Jack Butland and into his own net, showing both sides were just as vulnerable at the back.

Philippe Clement

Philippe Clement will hope Rangers can be more clinical to exploit poor defences such as Motherwell’s

Gers responding within seven minutes through another new signing in Vaclav Cerny suggested once more that Motherwell could be exploited at the back, but that would prove to be the end of the scoring.

End-to-end first halves such as the one on show at Hampden on Saturday will make clear to Clement that most Premiership defences are there to be exposed – it’s just a matter of making sure his attackers are also on the money.

In other Rangers news, Four Lads gave a verdict on one Gers youngster after he “couldn’t have looked less interested” during a recent friendly.
