Breaking News:Luke McCowan to ‘100%’ shine at Rangers despite Celtic and Dundee transfer talk

Dundee midfielder Luke McCowan could “100 per cent” shine for Rangers under Philippe Clement, according to Barry Ferguson

The 26-year-old is understood to be a target for Hibernian this summer, with the Edinburgh club submitting three bids for his signature while Celtic are also monitoring his situation [Anthony Joseph, 15 August].

While the Gers are not expected to be interested in hijacking either club’s move for McCowan, Go Radio pundit Ferguson believes the “exceptional” Dundee star would add an extra dimension to Clement’s midfield.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (16 August, 23:03) he said: “I really like him. Every time I watch Dundee, he’s stood out like a sore thumb.

“He was Dundee’s best player, at 26 he’s not a young kid, he’s got good experience and listen, he’s done it the hard way. From Ayr United, he got his move to Dundee and for me was exceptional last season.

“Could he do a job for Celtic or Rangers? 100 per cent, that’s how highly I rate him.”

Will Luke McCowan exit Dundee amid Celtic and Rangers transfer rumours?

While most Rangers fans are hoping to see Clement add another attacking player or two to his squad before the transfer window slams shut, the Gers are also crying out for some midfield reinforcements this summer.

McCowan is capable of playing a more advanced role and has typically been given plenty of creative freedom at Dundee and that could be perfect for the Light Blues given the uncertainty around Todd Cantwell and teammate Ianis Hagi.

Last season he managed to score 10 goals and lay on five assits in 41 matches and he has already scored three times and produced another three assits in six appearances this term.

He may not be the sort of big-money addition that most Rangers fans are crying out for ahead of the transfer deadline, but his record is excellent and he would likely be available for a small fee by the Gers’ standards.

The Light Blues could do much worse than the Dundee star in the coming weeks.

In other Rangers news, Clement has been told that things could “unravel quickly” for him during “dangerous times” in Glasgow
