Leeds United are looking to add depth in defence and they have opened talks to sign Nottingham Forest centre-half Andrew Omobamidele this month.

The Whites stayed at the top of the championship table, but they failed to pick up wins in back-to-back games. Leeds drew 3-3 against Hull City on Saturday, and they will be frustrated for dropping points from winning position.

According to a report from The Sun, Leeds are in discussion over a loan deal for the 22-year-old defender, with an obligation to buy next summer.

Forest paid around £11 million when they signed him from Norwich City in the summer of 2023. They are looking to recoup a fee of around £10 million.

Championship rivals Sheffield United are also in the race to sign the Ireland defender, but they are only looking to sign him on loan.

In that case, Forest will probably be tempted to sell the defender to Leeds. Daniel Farke knows him very well, as the player made his Premier League debut under him back in 2021, and he is eyeing a reunion.

Leeds United see it as a long-term investment

The Whites have heavily relied on the partnership of Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk.

Max Wober can also play as a centre-back, while Ethan Ampadu can fill the role if needed. Last season, Ampadu forged a great partnership at the back alongside Rodon when Struijk got injured, but he is primarily a central midfielder.

Wober has barely featured this season, and he is often linked with a move away from Elland Road. Leeds see Omobamidele as a long-term investment, and it looks like the Whites will be looking to strike a deal with Forest quickly.

Forest are flying high at the moment, and they are aiming for the elusive Champions League spot. With so many quality defenders ahead of him, Omobamidele has found game time hard to come by this season, and a move away from the club looks increasingly likely.
